Ah high school, some of the best and worst times that we could ever have. Do you still remember the term “sloppy seconds”? If you don’t, let me refresh your aged memory, sloppy seconds is when you get with a girl/guy that one of your friends have gotten with.
Now at high school, sloppy seconds was a big no. You never get with a friends previous flame. This was only excusable under extreme circumstances like the annual house party or braai at a friend’s house where alcohol was involved, that was the only exception for having sloppy seconds.
It has occurred to me that after high school that term seizes to exist. So I have been wondering why and have come to the following conclusions: 1) the fight or chase for girls becomes rather tough and people tends not to want to struggle and ends up going for whatever. 2) At high school we all had that certain image to maintain, whether it is the role of jock, nerd or whatever. We would rather be cool than get some.
Thing is, sloppy seconds used to be fun as we have heard the stories (yes guys gossip as well) so we know how far we can push the boundaries and what is allowed and what is not. YEAH I SAID IT!
Just something that came to mind, weird I know. Just remember next time you have sloppy seconds, think of the seconds as a shoe, seeing that it has been worn it, it makes it more comfortable.
